Bruce Antonio Jones was born in Enterprise, AL, to his parents, Bobby Lemuel and Betty Charles Jones, who preceded him in death. Bruce was known as a quiet, gentle soul who was loved and doted over by his parents and four sisters. His family moved to St. Petersburg, Fl. when he was very young. Later the family relocated to Atlanta, Ga. Bruce graduated from Grady High School in Atlanta, GA in 1985, where he excelled as an “A” student. He was awarded an academic scholarship to the historical Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA, where he excelled.
Bruce enjoyed music, the beach, and swimming. He worked in retail sales until he was medically retired. Bruce had a brilliant mind. His sisters agree he was the most academically gifted of all of them. His exceptional academic prowess was in Mathematics. He could break down the most challenging equations for his sons, who were gifted in their own right.
Eventually, he moved back to Alabama, where he met the love of his life, Bernice Anderson. They married and began their life together in Dothan, Al, and later settled in Eufaula, AL. Bruce and Bernice were blessed with two sons, Bruce Jr. and Chad and were members of Star Missionary Baptist Church. This loving couple enjoyed life together even with its many rewards and challenges. Bernice was called to be with the Lord on March 25, 1999.
With the help of the Lord and his mother-in-law, Sarah Anderson, Bruce did his best to raise his two sons. Having been introduced to the Jesus Christ at an early age, he had to lean and depend on Him through many challenging days and circumstances. Bruce was described by his peers as a “good man, very intelligent” and, “one who kept to himself, and was liked by everyone.” His family and friends will truly miss him.
Preceded him in death was his wife, whom he adored, Bernice Anderson Jones and his parents, Betty Charles Jones and Bobby Lemuel Jones, a Father-in-law, Willie Culver, and Sister-in-law Jacqueline Lee Anderson. Bruce leaves to cherish his memory two sons, Bruce Jr. and Chad; four sisters, Betty Dukes (Russell Sr.) of Atlanta, GA, Phyllis McKnight (John, Sr.) Gainesville, Fl., Barbara Sumlar of Orange Park, Fl, Lasundra Jones of Atlanta, GA.; Mother-in-law, Sarah Anderson, Sister-in-law, Deborah Ann Ford, Brothers-in-law: Gregory and Phillip Anderson, and a host of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
